Last night (12-19-2012) at The Evergreen Fire and Rescue Station a meeting, sponsored by the Prince William County Transportation Deprtment, was held to request public input for the project attached that was designed to reduce the traffic danger at the hill where Logmill Road and Parnell Drive intersect. As mountain residents you are surely aware of the problems associated with Logmill Road and the multiple traffic fatalities that have occured in the recent past. In particular the project is designed to improve sight lines at Parnell Drive and cut down some hills and fill in some low spots to accomplish the stated goal.
In attendance were over 30 interested residents (many from our community) and there was a "lively" discussion on need, other potential solutions and even a "no build" option if there is sufficient opposition to the project.
In short the project is scheduled to have the following time line:
- Public Comment Period Closes 16 January, 2013
- Design Approval Early 2013
- Begin Final Design Early 2013
- Estimated Construction Start Summer 2013
- Estimated Construction Completion Early 2014
Of particular importance to mountain residents is the reality that Logmill will be closed during the construction period and access to the mountain will be from Mountain Road, accessed either from Waterfall Road to the south or New Road/Loudoun Drive to the north. Although the closure time frame was identified at three months last night according to the time fram above the closures could last much longer.
Other potential alternatives to construction of the project put forth in the meeting were:
- Reduced Speed Limit
- Speed Bumps
- A Three Way Stop Sign at Parnell and Logmill
- Do Nothing (The "No Build Option")
There was also support offered by several in attendance for the project.
The opportunity for mountain residents to have input in the process will end 16 January, 2013.
